Our Origins and History

Healthtrac was founded in 1984 to provide health education, health promotion, self-management, and need-and-demand reduction programs. The Healthtrac programs have evolved from many years of advanced research on the long-term outcomes of lifestyle and health behaviors, and chronic disease.

Our mission and objectives

HealthtracÕs mission is to achieve optimal health status for the population in a cost-effective manner. We achieve this through health promotion programs that meet the following objectives:

To meet this latter objective, we apply scientific research methods and review our programs on a continuous basis to assure that our mission and objectives as well as our clientsÕ goals are attained.

How We achieve our objectives

To achieve our objectives, we assist individuals to become informed health care consumers through individualized health education designed to increase their understanding of the relationship between their lifestyle and health habits, and their health status and well-being. We provide the self-management tools that build individuals confidence in their ability to make positive health and lifestyle behavior changes. We provide information to help participants better understand their symptoms and disease conditions so that they can communicate more effectively with their physicians and other health care providers.

Proven Results, world wide recognition

Numerous research studies have evaluated the Healthtrac programs; many of these studies have been published in peer-reviewed scientific literature. The results of these studies have demonstrated the validity and reliability of our health assessment tools, and the effectiveness of our health education and health promotion interventions. The Healthtrac programs consistently achieve improvements in health status outcomes and reductions in health care costs.

As a testament to these results, Healthtrac is the only five-time winner of the C. Everett Koop National Health Award that recognizes programs that reduce health risks and health care costs.
